Thunderbird has never been a replacement for Outlook. It is an desktop e-mail alternative to manage multiple email accounts. A better open source windows solution to Microsoft’s Outlook would be Spicebird which is essentially an outlook “type” extension of Mozilla’s Thunderbird.

Now Yahoo comes with Zimbra Desktop and may be a better replacement for both outlook and thunderbird.
