A Bunch of Awesome Google Search Tips and Tricks That you Probably Don’t Know About, But Really Should
Ever since I switched from Yahoo to Google Search as my primary means for scouring the web, I knew Google was capable of much more than simple keyword searches. Google houses some truly amazing abilities that I’d like to share with you guys today. These are going to be time saving tips and I really think your going to like them.
- Movie Reviews
- If you type movie: followed by a movie title, Google will return reviews of the film. Example: movie: I Love You, Man
- Currency Conversion
- So if your buying an item from our neighbors to the North and you don’t know how many greenbacks it will take to make $21.95 Canadian Dollars, Google has an easy solution. You simply type what currency you want to go from and what currency you want to convert to. Example: 21.95 Canadian Dollars in USD

- If you want up to date stock ticker information for any publicly traded company, Google’s got a trick for that as well. Example: AIG
- Search Only 1 Site
- Google provides the ability to search for a term on only one website at a time, if you so choose. Example: open source site:mrbup.com will search for anything related to ‘open source’ only on MrBup.com. QUICK NOTE: don’t put a space in between ’site:’ & ‘mrbup.com’
- Google Definitions
- If you had a mom like I did, then you must have heard a thousand times,”go get the dictionary.” Well now ma, thanks to Google, I don’t have to. If one of your colleagues starts busting out 5 or 6 syllable words you and Google them. Example: define:transcendentalism
- Cached Pages
- Google keep a cache of websites that it crawls on a regular basis. So if you want to visit an archived page of your favorite website and your ISP is blocking that site, you can easily view it through Google’s Cached Pages. Example: cache:mrbup.com
