Google's Chrome Internet Web Browser is a Great Free and Open Source Alternative to Microsoft's Internet Explorer

Google recently dropped a free and open source web browser for all of us to play with. Chrome was a built from the ground up by Google to incorporate all the best attributes of everyone’s favorite Internet activities. Even though its still in Beta, its a smooth and well refined tool for browsing the Internet. Since I am a complete Firefox freak, I found myself comparing Chrome to Firefox and I must say that I liked it very much.

PSPad is a Freeware IDE Text Editor software package that runs on Windows

PSPad editor was designed and constructed for programming. It offers multiple syntax highlighting profiles for each language you code in. It comes with a hex editor, CP conversion, text differences, templates, macros, spell checking option, auto-completion, Code Explorer and much much more.

OK..I know I have already shown an example of a FREE & OPEN SOURCE Windows Based Web Browser, and that I declared FireFox to be the best around. The truth is that, in my opinion, FireFox is the best browser for your PC, but Opera has 100% absolutely earned a place on your PC and other systems. It can be run right along side of FireFox as a secondary or backup browser. The other reason I am discussing Opera today is that, IT IS NOT REMOTELY OPEN SOURCE !! IT is however completely FREE !!

Although Many people to use Opera solely on there PCs, I think the greatest feature of Opera is that it can run on you Pocket PC, your Palm OS PDA, and even your Nintendo WII. The Opera Browser runs on your desktop computer. Opera Mini was designed to bring a full website to your PDA or Internet ready cellphone. Opera Mobile was launched in 2000 as the first mobile browser to bring the full Web to the small mobile screen. Opera for devices is the new Opera-powered Nintendo Wii Internet Channel that brings you a second generation of Wii-based Web browsing.

RSS Owl is a Free and Open Source RSS Feed Reader. RSSOwl basically looks and operates like a proficient web or FTP browser. If you have ever used either Fire Fox or FileZilla, you should be right at home with RSSOwl. And, much like FireFox, you can save all of your favorites websites, or in this case, newsfeeds. In fact, the interface easily allows you to add and drop any or all of your favorite subscribed feeds.

Although the main features of RSSOwl are pretty self explanatory, the one feature I really like about it is its search engine. Its very powerful and accurate. In fact, you can easily search for and download podcasts straight to your local hard drive.

FireFox is the Open Source answer to Internet Explorer

Today I am going to start a new series of posting here at MrBup.com. The new series is titled, Living under a Rock. This is to be comprehensive list of open source software that runs on MS Windows. Chances are that if you haven’t heard of these you very well may have been living under a rock in some remote desert land.

For our first open source Living Under a Rock posting we choose Firefox. Honestly, if you haven’t at least heard of this open source answer to web browsing and you own a computer, you have definitely been crouch down underneath some Afghani desert rock. I only say that because something like 50% of the Internet’s users browse the Web with Firefox. Firefox is the open source answer to Window Internet Explorer and it has been available for free download for quite a few years now. As of this writing the latest release is version 3.0.5.
